Tonight on Sports Page, big night in the NBA. You got the New York Knicks going into Phoenix to take on the Suns. That's a great matchup. We'll have all the scores and highlights. We'll talk to Brent Imlak about the Vancouver Canadians in '95, and the Hamilton Tiger Cats are back for one more seat.
Who was that young man? Look at that.
Wow. Talking about the Vancouver Canadians and everything. Tabbies? Oh man, I missed 11:00 on Sports Page.
Interview (interviewer / Dave Randorf):
INTERVIEWER: As you know, this is Dave Randorf, fixture down here now in Tampa, but one time mainstay in the Vancouver media. Of course, a member of Sports Page. And, do you still get reminded of that show?
RANDORF: All the time. All the time. My last show was in July 1995, and I kid you not, I don't go more than several months without somebody somewhere bringing up Sports Page, and I love it. We all love that show. It's one of the greatest points of my career.
INTERVIEWER: You were part of the family as well.
RANDORF: And you know what? It was a special time. There was no internet. Think about that. We had the sports fans in the Lower Mainland area and the Vancouver Island area had to ourselves, and we were local. You know? We were always about the Canucks and the Lions and the local sports amateur stories as well, and we had fun. And they left us alone to have fun, and people enjoyed it. And I just love when people bring it up. It's fun.
INTERVIEWER: There's a relaunch of Sports Page.
RANDORF: I saw that. After you get a call from Scott Rintoul, I don't think there's any royalty cheques whatsoever coming. But yeah, Scott Rintoul's relaunch, get to tell some more local Vancouver stories.
INTERVIEWER: And get back to the roots of the local.
RANDORF: We used to take pride in telling those stories, again, about the guys and the young men and women in and around the Lower Mainland area who never got any publicity. I remember doing the very first interview at Vancouver College with a young Grade 11 basketball, burgeoning basketball star by the name of Steve Nash. Yep. And that is the kind of stuff that we did, and we used to take great pride in doing it. I stole that footage many times over to get that story.
